Smoke & Odor Removal

You don't need flames at your house to have smoke damage. Wildfire smoke pushes fine soot through attic vents, door gaps and HVAC intakes. It leaves a film on walls and a smell that returns every time the heat comes on. In 2026 we cleaned smoke-damaged homes in Rye, Beulah and the Aspen Acres and Gold Mountain fire areas. Most homeowners policies cover smoke damage from a nearby wildfire, so it's worth having it documented.

1. Assessment — We identify the type of smoke residue (dry, wet or protein), which determines the cleaning method. 2. Soot removal — Dry sponging, HEPA vacuuming and wet cleaning of walls, ceilings and surfaces. 3. Air and odor treatment — Hydroxyl generators (Airbotx 440X) can run with people and pets in the home. Thermal fogging reaches smoke odor that has soaked into porous materials. 4. HVAC — Smoke in the ductwork has to be cleaned out, or the odor keeps coming back. 5. Contents — Pack-out and cleaning of furniture, clothing and belongings. 6. Seal and rebuild — Where odor is in framing, we clean it and seal it with odor-blocking primer before rebuilding.

Smoke particles are microscopic and oily. Painting over soot or spraying deodorizer hides them for a few weeks. Then heat and humidity bring the smell right back. Removing the odor means removing the residue and neutralizing what has soaked in.
