Alamosa Kitchen: Mold Remediation Down to the Subfloor
Moisture under an Alamosa kitchen had grown mold into the flooring, the wall materials and the wood below. We set up containment and removed the moldy materials down to the subfloor and framing so the source was gone, not covered up.
What we found
When the flooring came up, mold had grown on the underside and into the wood beneath it. The wall materials along the kitchen had the same problem. Mold that has reached the wood under a floor keeps coming back if only the surface is cleaned.
Containment
We sealed off the work area with plastic containment and zipper doors so spores stayed inside it while the moldy materials came out.
Removal
The base cabinets, flooring and damaged wall materials were removed, taking the kitchen down to the subfloor and framing so every affected surface could be treated. Removing the source is what keeps mold from returning.
